Global Planting Guide for Pullman Hotels

Accor Group, Pullman Brand

As part of Pullman Hotels’ ongoing brand evolution, Oliver Heath Design was asked to create a global planting guide that would embed biophilic design across the brand’s wide-ranging property portfolio. This planting guide forms a key part of Pullman’s broader mission to enhance guest wellbeing, promote sustainability, and create immersive hospitality environments that reflect their progressive and socially connected identity.

The planting guide was developed as a flexible, scalable, resource to support planting implementation across different hotel typologies from new-build flagships to light refurbishments and property conversions. It provides both innovative high-impact planting strategies for key public spaces and practical “quick-win” solutions for smaller or budget-conscious sites. This allows for meaningful biophilic integration regardless of location, climate, or scale.

Drawing on evidence-based biophilic design principles, the guide introduces sensory-rich planting features that support emotional and physical wellbeing. This includes focal planting in lobbies and F&B areas, as well as subtle, low-maintenance greenery in low-sensory zones such as back-of-house and wellness spaces. Plant selections were tailored to be locally sourced, climate-appropriate, and operationally feasible, helping hotels maintain consistency with Pullman’s global identity while being responsive to local environmental conditions.

The guide also emphasises the use of natural materials, sustainable practices, and maintenance-conscious layouts. Whether through preserved moss walls, indoor herb planters, or cascading vertical greenery, the design interventions aim to foster a greater sense of calm, connection, and vitality within each space.

The final guidelines enable Pullman properties around the world to confidently apply a unified yet adaptable planting strategy. It strengthens the brand’s position as a leader in contemporary, wellbeing-driven hospitality, offering guests thoughtfully designed environments that are vibrant, culturally engaging, and rooted in nature.
