Incorporating biophilic design into an office, to measure  improvements to employee wellbeing and productivity

The client requested that OHD create the design concept for a 450m2 test space (half a floor of the client’s headquarters in Europe); incorporating Biophilic features that we would expect to yield positive impacts on employee wellbeing and productivity so that the impact could be measured and be compared with a control space.

In addition to the use of natural and biomimetic materials, textures, shapes, forms and patterns, our design proposal incorporated planting, recuperation and water features. Zoning the different areas of activity was an essential aspect of the design, as was the pathway between the clearly defined zones. To reflect the client's position as travel industry leaders our ‘pathways and destinations’ concept referenced desirable travel experiences and environments and aimed to help employees find the spaces that suit their needs.
